Patient Financial Counselor II - Admitting [Santa Barbara]

Registers, verifies eligibility obtains authorizations and gathers financial billing information for Inpatient and Outpatient services for all hospitals.

Updates and/or registers patient in Sunrise or Emdeon billing system, while verifying financial and demographic information as needed. Correctly determines patient financial status to ensure financial obligations to hospital will be met.

Interacts with medical staff and Nursing regarding patient bed assignments and initiates patient registration.

Interfaces with social service agencies. Refers patients to CHS Community Service Program when appropriate and ensures that applications are completed and determinations are made in a timely manner. Receives incoming calls from patients, medical staff, and third-parties regarding patient accounts while maintaining established patient confidentiality guidelines.

Meets established productivity goals according to departmental policy.

With variations due to hospital site and department, this position may require census-driven scheduling flexibility (additional/fewer shifts), holiday coverage, floating, being placed on-call, weekend coverage, and shift rotations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

Minimum: High school diploma with some college coursework

Preferred: Associate and/or Bachelor's degree

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum: Basic MS Word and Excel skills. 35 wpm keyboarding/typing speed. Basic math skills.

Preferred: Advanced knowledge of MS office, including PowerPoint.

YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum: 1 year in an office environment or Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred: Related work experience in a healthcare environment, with a working knowledge of medical terminology
