Research Scientist I - Trauma Research

JOB PURPOSE: Independently design, conduct and analyze scientific studies to test clinical hypotheses.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION: Master's degree in nursing, scientific or technical field. PhD in a scientific or technical field is preferred.

CERTIFICATION PREFERRED: Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), Certified Research Coordinator (CRC), or Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC).

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED: General office equipment and computer skills, including MS Office. PREFERRED: Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and regulations governing human subjects in research. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the IRB process. Working knowledge of scientific and medical concepts and terminology, and strong familiarity with biomedical research protocols.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 5+ years of experience working in clinical/translational research related to trauma and critical illness. Experienced in manuscript development and utilization of established mathematical and scientific techniques to compile and analyze data. The ideal candidate would have trauma services and research.

If the candidate has a PhD in a scientific or technical field, only 3 years of the above experience is required.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES: Plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate all aspects of Cottage Health's trauma level I research program.
Cultivate cross-institution research collaborations that capitalize on shared technological strengths and opportunities with Cottage Health and its academic partners.

Develop and evaluate new trauma concepts, practices and procedures with technical staff, statisticians and healthcare providers utilizing electronic medical records, external data warehouses and large clinical populations.

Mentor trainees to develop competitive grant applications.

Advocate for the translation of trauma research findings into practice throughout Cottage Health.

Responsible for the contribution to Cottage Health's educational goals by presenting at conferences and continuing medical education courses.
