The Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with educational preparation at a minimum of a Master's degree in Nursing that includes the five components of the Clinical Nurse Specialist role (expert clinician, educator, administrator/manager, consultant, researcher). In addition, the CNS is certified by the California Board of Registered Nursing to practice as a CNS and holds national certification as both a CNS and in Oncology nursing. The CNS demonstrates a high degree of professional competence in Oncology nursing and utilizes advanced theoretical and empirical knowledge and a scientific approach to problem solving. The Oncology CNS establishes standards for patient care and evaluates interventions to improve care. Works collaboratively within the spheres of influence of Nursing, System and Patient to help meet and exceed Cottage Health's top goals.
