Reporting to the Vice President for information Technology/CIO, the director of the Project Office oversees and coordinates all components of all information technology projects; manages strategic aspects of projects; consolidates, analyzes, and reports status of projects; and mitigates projects risk to the organization. The director establishes and manages a process that solicits hospital-wide input on potential technical projects, performs a cost/benefit analysis on project proposals when appropriate, and prepares recommendations on priorities of specific projects for presentation to management and governance committees. Together with hospital leadership, the director ensures that information technology projects are properly approved, prioritized, and tracked through the various stages of project life. The director sets the standards for project delivery and reporting, provides or develops tools for project management, and ensures their use. The project director oversees and directs the work of all project managers and project leaders assigned to projects in the project office portfolio and has HR responsibility for direct reports.

Major Accountabilities:

 

Ensures information technology projects are properly approved, prioritized, tracked, and reported to stakeholders and governance. Facilitates communications between project stakeholders, project teams, and governance; prepares and delivers information about projects throughout the organization.


Manages the strategic aspects of information technology projects, oversees and coordinates all project management activities of technology projects, and ensures proper escalation and timely resolution of issues.


Sets standards for project delivery, including providing or developing tools for project management, ensuring their use, and facilitating a team approach to project delivery.


Assures project managers and project leads are trained in the techniques of project management and the tools adopted by the Project Office; manages the development of project managers regardless of their reporting relationship.

 

 

LEVEL OF EDUCATION


Bachelor's Degree in healthcare management, information technology, IT business, or closely related field, or equivalent work experience (2 years of experience for each year of college).


TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS


Competency in developing cost-benefit analyses; competency required with project management tools (Word, Excel, Visio, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint). Working knowledge of Information Technology and hospital operations.

  

YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE


5 years of IT project management experience. 2 years of management experience.
