Under the supervision of the Director of Technology Operations, the IT System Engineer - Active Directory is responsible for implementing day to day ISD program requirements to ensure that the enterprise Microsoft Active Directory environment and associated systems and services are functioning efficiently, effectively, and securely for a 24x7, mission critical, highly available, multisite enterprise in support of roughly 6,000 users. This position is responsible for the design, management, and support of all aspects of the Active Directory environment ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of authentication, authorization and LDAP related services to the enterprises internal as well external customers.

 

Key responsibilities are to plan, design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot Organizational Unit structure, AD Role assignment, Group Policy Objects, Sites and Service Replication, Distributed File Service Replication, Trust Relationships, Federated Service Relationships, Active Directory life cycle upgrades, LDAP/Authentication system integrations, Cloud Integrated Systems, access solutions, resource permissions, and related infrastructure.

 

This position is also responsible for networking services and protocols related to Active Directory such as DNS, DHCP, Kerberos, PKI, and Certificate Authorities. This position is also responsible for proactive and reactive monitoring of the entire Active Directory environment and associated infrastructure using both native Microsoft tools and existing 3rd party systems. Implementing security best practices and adhering to Cottage internal security and compliance policies and procedures is required. Monthly patching of the Active Directory infrastructure and associated environment is required. Maintaining a small, replica test environment is also required.

 

 The role also requires knowledge of, and some responsibility for, associated infrastructures such as physical servers, VMWare hosts and guests, Windows Servers, LAN networking, WAN networking, storage networking, and SAN/NAS functionality. Documentation of all facets of the environment are required. Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity responsibilities are also included. The role also involves considerable collaboration with internal Cottage ISD staff and multiple contracted managed service providers. This position also has strong ties to the Cottage Information Security and Compliance Department and requires tight coordination and collaboration. LEVEL OF EDUCATION:

Minimum:  Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field, or combination of education and experience, using the standard of two years of experience equals one year of college. 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENESES, REGISTRATIONS:

Minimum:  Microsoft Certified Professional MCP

Preferred:  Microsoft MCSE, Microsoft MCSA, CompTia Network+, VMWare VCP, ITIL Foundation, and/or storage and networking vendor certifications

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum:  Expert level understanding of TCP/IP, internet and intranet network applications and protocols. Advance level understanding of LAN/WAN/Storage networking, Windows server administration, VMWare VCenter administration; load balancing, cloud computing, colocation, information security concepts, and storage systems. High level knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity concepts and operations. Ability to design, implement, administer, manage, troubleshoot, optimize, monitor, and upgrade Microsoft Active Directory related infrastructure, service, and protocol  related systems within an enterprise level, 24x7, multi-site, organization consisting of nearly 6,000 users and 400 servers.

YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum:  1 year of general system, network, or IT administrator or support experience and 5 years of dedicated Microsoft Active Directory system related work experience.

Preferred:  3 years of general system, network, or IT administrator or support experience and 7 years of dedicated Microsoft Active Directory system related work experience.
